Lucia has a way of transporting you from the chair you sit in to this magical fantasy world that is riveting, entertaining and filled with awe! I read this book from cover to cover and only got up to eat breakfast and have tea ... all while continuing to read. I loved that it is a continuation from her earlier series (The Witching World) although you wold not need these books to read this one .. it can stand alone! Although it would have been fabulous had it been a bit longer, this actually worked out well ... I have her story flowing thru my mind and I still have time to get some work done today! I am gong now to pre-order her next book in this series!! Yay!
I stumbled over this book on a freebie site, and thought it looked interesting. Lots of action and compelling heroine. It's a short book, but had me enthralled. Someone complained about the editing, but I didn't notice a problem, and I usually do. Will be buying book 2 next payday.
Really good story. Short n long at the same time though. It carried on about some things but I kept reading, hoping it would get to more interesting things but I was a little disappointed. There was more description about horses and a dragon than characters. I’m not really one who has a right to judge a book someone else put their heart into though so if the book sounds good to you it is worth the read. I’m pretty sure I’d get book two if it were .99. I’m guessing book 2 will have more to look forward to.
For the first time in a while, I am not exsctly sure what to say about a book. "First Spell" just did not capture my interest. The main character, Isadora, was not realistic. At one point, she said she was not the crying kind and yet had already cried three or four times.I cannot say that the writing is bad. It is passable AND I do not recall any editing issues! That was worth one star to me. I have the second book, but do not intend to read it. I can see teenage girls enjoying this series, though.
This is the first book by Lucia Ashta I've read. First Spell is extremely well written. Lucia is an excellent storyteller. She has created a fantastic world with excellent characters. I found myself drawn into the story, experiencing it along with Isa, and kept turning pages until the end. Looking forward to the next book in the Magical Arts Academy series. Highly recommend.
Magical Arts Academy is a delightful romp from start to finish with hardly a breathing space inbetween as the unrelenting chase and battle between sorcerers and magicians never lets up. Not even one tiny bit.Magic exists. Isa never knew that. And now she dearly wants to be part of it.And I am convinced that I am on a journey myself now for a while, reading with Isa, reading book after book in this series, as we get to explore a world in which magic truly exists. Oh my goodness!
This is a good short story for just about any reader. There is violence but not highly graphic. The main character Isa is young and engaging. She is brought into the world of magic with her brother into the middle of a difference in ideologies. She has to choose sides rapidly.
I enjoyed the magical world as laid out and the sibling relationships in the story. At first, it seemed to be like several other series, but my interest grew as the story progressed. In fact, the next two books in the series are even better than this one. Although short, it is a good read if you like reading about different magical beings and the conflict between good and evil.
