She always maintained he was a cop, worked with an accomplice sometimes, and that he stayed in the Sacramento area all these years and why.....Lots of great information and additions by ballistic expert Mark Smith and Contra Costa Lead Investigator of the time, Larry Cromptom, as to what law enforcement did wrong and hot to prevent this from happening again......A must read for those who want the latest update on Joseph DeAngelo.....who indeed was the creep among Sacramento residents, living 40 years right amongst his victims...
Very interesting read. I'm sorry for the writer and what she had experienced with the attempted kidnapping, but I'm glad she shared her experience, especially for us that have gone through similar nightmares and have survived. Shes an inspiration. She proves that you can survive a scary situation and go on to live a productive life.

For over forty years, this rapist and killer lived in the very area in which he gained notoriety for his crimes.His crimes were ones of such hatred and rage. This creep left so many lives in shattered pieces as he continued to terrorize the community. He left so much fear in his wake. Nothing the police did at the time could stop him. He seemed to have an uncanny ability to escape any traps they set in efforts to catch him.He was leaving his DNA behind. That would lead to his arrest. On April 24, 2018, this monster who hid his identity behind a mask, was finally apprehended.Joseph James DeAngelo was living in the Sacramento suburb of Citrus Heights. His home was close to many of his crimes.For any true crime buff or anyone affected in any way by this case, this book is a must-read. Anne Penn was there in the beginning when the East Area Rapist terrorized Sacramento. This monster made sure to attack not only on the east side of town but in all surrounding communities. No place was safe. The fear held the community hostage.Anne Penn shares her personal story of how this man and his horrific deeds touched her family.Larry Crompton was a detective on this case in the early days of the East Area Rapist. Even though he is now retired, this was the case that haunted him the most.
